  • Someone once said that the only area of the entire universe over which you have final control is you. And in realm of personal growth and development, this is basically true.
The final control for enhancing your life is you. It may sound frightening, out of reach or too big to handle. But no matter how you feel about it, the ball is in your court.

    1. Teach Others
Plain time for those you love. They'll partly measure your love by the prime time you devout to them. Someone once said that you can have everything in life you want, if you'll just help enough people get what they want. And the best way to begin is with a smile, a firm handshake and a compliment.

    2. Love Yourself

Few people find this easy to do. But without a belief that you are worth the effort and that you do deserve good things, your motivation to develop as a person will be short- lived and poorly directed. For to many people the idea of "lovind myself" smacks of pride and arrogance. But it's far from it. You and I are no less "woderfully made". So lets treat our bodies carefully and accept the power of our minds to develop.

    3. Expect Respect

Let other people know that you consider yourself a worthwhile person- not a doormat for anyone. Your body is your own. Your mind is your own. Your emotion is your own. And even though you may have commited yourself to GOD's leading, it's your responsibilities to respect yourself and expect respect from others. Learn what it means to be assertive. Acknowlegde your own needs and seek to meet them without hindering others from meeting theirs.
This isn't license for selfishness. It's merely placing responsibility for personal development where it belongs- on you!

    4. Listen to Yourself

Since childhood, we've been conditioned to hide our feelings. Overt expressions of how we really feel may have been met with disapproval. And so we learned to avoid pain by behaving as was expected. Too many of us have grown up believing that only good feelings should be acknowledged.
Feeling come, and it takes a lot of nervous energy to repress or suppress them. However, one of the most vulnerable but helpful roads to a better you is to recognize those feelings. Acknowledging them allows you to do something constructive about what's causing them.

    5. Challenge Yourself

One reason why we don't grow is that we feel safe in familiar territory. To grow, stretch your boundaries by setting goals a little beyond what you've done before. But don't go overboard. Set goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, and relevant to you. Set time limits, but do not make them too long-distance. Remember that a goal properly set is a goal half reached.

    6. Love learning

Our world is ever changing, requiring new knowlegde and adaptable techniques. Nurture your creativity by seeking answers to questions. Tackle new skills. Enroll in classes to learn. And be consistent in your search. Someone once wrote that the three C's- curiosity, creativity, and consistency- are as important as the three R's.

    7. Be Content
Learn to be content whatever the circumstances. Recognize often life goes wrong and is unfair- and there's not much we can do about it.

    8. Forgive Yourself

One of the most liberating discoveries in life is what you can lose without being a loser. You can fail without being a failure. Repeat it often enough and it sounds like a cliche- but it's true! This is no way wrong a license to do wrong. None of us need any encouragement to do wrong and make mistakes. Nor should we allow our mistakes to discourage debilitate us.
Another liberating discovery is that not all guilt is deserved. Much of our guilt derives from the value- ladden messages of parents, teachers and preacher. Not al of these values reflect truth. Prejudice and ignorant, as well as truth, can influence our view of the world and ourselves.

    9. Learn to Relax

Learn to pause long enough to touch, see, hear, and taste your surroundings. Don't be always trying to achieve. In order to find a healthy, happy balance, allow yourself at least one day each when you can "breathe out".
Practice physical relaxation. Test yourself when you come to the next set of red traffic lights. Sink back into car seat and let your shoulders pull of gravity. Then breathe in deeply from your diaphragm by pushing outyour stomach. Learn the skill and it will be a real asset in other situations in which you feel understress.

    10. Make GOD Part of Your Life
It may not be your thing to be too religious. But with GOD you don't have to be.

    The Paradox of Our Time
    By: George Carlin

The Paradox of our time is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways but narrower viewpoints.

We spend more but we have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more convenience, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too muvh and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possession, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love to seldom and hate too often, We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life, but not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've done larger things but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.

We write more but learn less . We plan more but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and smaller character, steep profits ans shallow relationships.

These are the days of two incomes but more divorce; fancier houses but broken homes. These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw every morality; one night stands, overweight bodies and pills that everything;  from cheer to quite, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window but nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time to choose either to share this insight or just hit delete.

Remember: Spend time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe because that little person will grow up and leave your side.

Remember to give a warm hug to someone next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart, and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember to say "I Love You" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend your hurt when it comes from deep inside you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment, for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

"Life is not measures by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breaths..."

May 14, 2007
